People notice that we never use words like “manipulation” or “treatment” in our office. Its forbidden. It’s important to understand why.
Chiropractic is not the practice of osteopathy or medicine or physiotherapy, we are uniquely distinct. What we do is so different, and our objective is so different, we have a different vocabulary.
Sometimes people in pain expect us to crack them, and to feel better right away. We don’t do that. In fact, we find pain to be a valuable communication from the body, letting us know something is wrong. We don’t pop joints to turn that valuable signal off. We Adjust to correct specific areas of disfunction, so the body can heal. We never want to tell our body to shut up, because when we do that, it finds another, more aggressive way to talk to us!
When other professionals “manipulate” your joints, without measuring joint, muscle and nervous system function objectively, indiscriminately cracking everything that will crack, and without a clear objective beyond pain control, their benefit is limited. You may feel better temporarily, the pain signal may turn off, but let’s not confuse that with health. That’s lack of feeling. Drugs do the same thing.
Health is optimal function, and that’s our objective. That is a process requiring time and repetition, and it’s what you deserve. Anything less than that is what we call “pop and pray”. Pray to feel better, even though what we need is to be healthier. We have to shift our perspectives.
