A funny thing happened to me last week. I was closing the clinic, and as I went to lock the front door as I have hundreds of times before, I found I could barely turn the key to lock the door. The door seemed to close normally, the key just didn’t want to turn. I tried forcing it a bit. I checked the locking mechanism and the made sure it was aligned. I even sprayed WD-40 lubricant into the lock. None of that helped.
Puzzled and annoyed, I realized I should check the doorway for any possible obstructions, although somehow I felt sure there weren’t any. What did I find just below the door? A tiny pebble, so small you’d think nothing of it. I removed it of course, and the door closed and locked normally.
I immediately laughed at my foolishness. As a Chiropractor, checking for “blockages” called Subluxations, is what we do all day long, and we do that before anything else. Most of the time, removing the blockage restores normal function, whether its a door, a river, or a spine. Why try injecting a lubricant before looking to see if something is in the way? I should have known.
