Posture braces, good idea?
Posture braces and vests: can a prosthetic like this help our posture?
We get asked this a lot, and these devices are frequently advertised on Facebook and all over the web. Postural evaluation and correction is a significant part of our Chiropractic practice.
So, do these help, should I try one?
The first thing to understand about posture is that it is a reflection of the quality of your neuro-musculo-skeletal functioning and patterning, and good posture comes from balance and ease within this system. Your posture says a lot about your health!
Needless to say, we can’t fake good posture, we have to build good posture. Devices meant to force good posture will not retrain your neuromusculoskeletal system, and that means you’ll be dependent upon it, and when you remove it, you’ll be weaker than when you started using it.
In short, we don’t recommend them!
In our practice, we closely evaluate posture, take measurements, and recheck your posture after we’ve made the necessary corrections. We use visuals, photos and videos, and recommend exercises specific to your body.
